I/O Devices allow the status of a real-world input to be captured and relayed via communication back to a controller, monitoring system, or even a common PC. I/O devices can simply be dumb slaves to an industrial controller or SCADA package or, as in the case of the Red Lion CSMSTR, and provide monitoring, logging, and limited control all in the same package.
